I always expect the worst when ordering stuff online from smaller retailers; you never really know exactly what youre getting yourself into so I prepare for a nightmare. topdjgear.com surprised me and turned out to be the exception to the rule all the way around. Pull up a seat and let me tell you about it. Maybe it will put your mind at ease about ordering from them.
I am not a DJ, I know nothing about DJ equipment. Im a computer guy. Im completely wired or more accurately these days, completely wireless. To me, records are so 1980s. However, I married a woman who not only has her own impressive record collection from college, she somehow also has the entire collection from two other people. Needless to say, this collection of 2000+ albums doesnt really fit into the scheme of things around here. They cant be played through the entertainment center in the living room, cant be piped into any room of the house through the network, cant be mixed and taken on the road, they sounded like crap when played on the turntable we had, and most importantly they dont play on the iPod.
This is where topdjgear.com came into play. Id' tried before to convert some of these albums to mp3, but the quality wasnt very good. It didnt take much research to figure out that you get what you pay for, and the Stanton str8-150 is perhaps the best turntable in the industry today. It has everything the modern DJ would want, including digital outputs. So I decided to get one and start this project. I placed the order somewhere between Christmas and New Years, and to my surprise it was processed, shipped and received in just a few days. Topdjgear.com was on the ball the whole time. They sent me email confirming the order, the shipment, and sent tracking information. To put this in perspective, at the same time I placed an order from a large computer company, who did none of that, and it took way longer for them to process the order.
So the equipment arrives, and I finally get around to unpacking it. After an hour of not being able to figure it all out on my own, I give topdjgear.com a call. Im expecting to have to leave a message and someone will get back with me. Not so, a human answered on the second ring. Not just any human, but a knowledgeable one! He was familiar with my equipment, understood what I was trying to do (and was properly both sympathetic and encouraging). He patiently explained how to adjust the weight and height of the stylus. He even gave me tips on getting better sound quality, and how to prolong the useful life of my stylus.
Would I recommend them? You bet, and I already have to another who is doing pretty much the same thing I am. More important is the fact that once I click the submit button here, Im heading back to their site to order something else.
