Perfect Setup
The user interface works on a completely flexible and dynamic principle. Toggle individual control groups on and off, arrange secondary functions and displays for an optimum use of space. The new Messages Window automatically displays short explanations for the active function. DJ Effects

Search, pre-listen and purchase the latest club music in various digital formats from the leading dance music online store and download it directly into the TRAKTOR database – even during your set. Within seconds the hottest new tracks are in your library and ready to be mixed. Buying and mixing tracks are seamlessly combined in a single application for the first time ever!

Access is easy: Just go online and select "Beatport" in the TRAKTOR Track-Browser – immediately the Beatport website appears in the TRAKTOR database window – no need to use any other browser.

Professional 4-channel DJ Mixer emulation

The new mixer
The heart of TRAKTOR 3 is an excellent emulation of the ground-breaking Allen & Heath XONE:92 4-channel club mixer. In direct cooperation with Allen&Heath nearly all the features and the sonic properties of this mixer have been implemented in the software.

The TRAKTOR mixer offers a customizable crossfader curve, excellent EQs and cross-fader assignable filters, pre- and post-EQ monitoring, LFOs and so much more. Additionally, the XONE:92 equalizer can be swapped with two other equalizers offering features and sonic characteristics.

Alternatively, all four channels can be used to process external signals from the soundcard.

Interactive Waveform Displays
Pioneering mouse modes turn TRAKTOR 3's waveform displays into advanced control surfaces, offering DJs unparalleled interaction with the track. The pointer snaps to beats and cue-points, while the zoom level can be simultaneously adjusted with the scroll wheel.

Jump from one part of the track to another directly from within the waveform or use the Search Loop feature to easily find the desired part of a track - and all without slipping out of time.

Right-clicking directly in the waveform allows you to start or stop the track.

Database
TRAKTOR's extensive database functions make it easy to manage your music. Use the Quick Search features to instantly find the track you are looking for or just browse through your entire library. 'Bookmarks' enable fast access to 12 of your favourite folders. Pre-listen tracks directly in the database or your playlist and then load them into a deck with a simple click. Or access the Beatport website from within the TRAKTOR browser and download new tracks.

Dynamic Control Surfaces

TRAKTOR 3's dynamic interface automatically adapts to every situation. The TRAKTOR interface is fully modular and resizable, so it can be customized to suit various needs and applications. Maximize the browser to find a track, minimize it when mixing in the next. Hide effects or the entire mixer when using an external controller. Shortcuts can be assigned to switch between customized views and setups on-the-fly.

Advanced features and expert functions are displayed in a separate details section. The Message Window provides helpful information on all functions as you are using them.

Recording

Record a set, edit it and re-mix sections at a later date and then export it to an audio file – all with the patented, non-destructive TRAKTOR Native Mix technology. The History function automatically notes which tracks you played when in your set.

Additionally, you can record signals on the fly from the audio inputs, load them into a deck and mix them back into your set.

FinalScratch 2 compatibility

TRAKTOR 3 is fully compatible with the Stanton FinalScratch 2 system, fusing the intimacy of vinyl control with the advantages of digital audio. This ground-breaking combination allows your digital audio tracks to be controlled using special time-coded vinyl records or CDs. Or drop a dub-plate into the mix – the choice is yours.

MIDI control
The convenient MIDI implementation supports multiple MIDI interfaces and controllers and makes it totally easy to assign the various knobs, buttons and faders. MIDI configurations for a particular controller can be stored and exchanged with other users. Or use keyboard shortcuts to control certain functions.

How do I integrate TRAKTOR 3 into a home or club setup?

TRAKTOR 3 can be custom configured to fit into any live-, home- and studio-scenario. Whether you prefer DJing with your laptop or in combination with an external hardware mixer, whether you would like to use FinalScratch 2 or MIDI controller hardware for external control of all parameters – TRAKTOR delivers maximum flexibility. Here we describe how this works for the most common scenarios.

1. Basic Setup
For use at home and mobile use on train, in hotels, backstage. You need: Laptop or desktop computer with a soundcard, plus TRAKTOR 3 and headphones.

The only equipment you need for preparing a live mix or compiling a mix CD at home or on the road is TRAKTOR 3, a laptop and headphones, since TRAKTOR offers four virtual playback decks and an integrated emulation of the renowned Allen&Heath XONE:92 DJ mixer with a pre-listening section. Run the master output to the left soundcard out and the monitor output to the right and you’re ready to mix. Keep in mind however that with this setup you can only listen in mono. If you have an external multi-channel soundcard (such as AUDIO KONTROL 1), run the monitor output to the headphone output (for example 1 and 2) and the master output to the other outputs (3 and 4). Now you can hear the master signal through the stereo system and pre-listen through the headphones at the same time.

2. "Classic" DJ Setup/Club Setup:
For live performances in clubs, and use in the professional studio. You need: Laptop or desktop computer, multi-channel soundcard, external hardware DJ mixer.


In principle this configuration is just like a classic turntable setup: in the TRAKTOR audio setup dialog window click the "external"-button (the internal DJ mixer will disappear from the screen). Run the two to four TRAKTOR decks out individually through the stereo outputs of the soundcard (AUDIO KONTROL 1 is perfect for this) and into the line inputs of the DJ mixer, just like turntables. Crossfading, EQ and monitoring are done on the DJ mixer, track selection and playback, looping, cueing, filtering on TRAKTOR.

You can also add TRAKTOR to a classic turntable setup, to use both TRAKTOR and vinyl. For this the hardware DJ mixer must have stereo line inputs in addition to the phono inputs.

Club Setup: TRAKTOR plus multichannel audio interface (AUDIO KONTROL 1) plus Hardware-DJ-Mixer (e.g. Ecler Nuo4)

3. Setup with Turntables and FinalScratch 2

Ideal for use in Clubs.
Equipment: Laptop or Desktop Computer, TRAKTOR 3, FinalScratch 2 Hardware (ScratchAmp, special time-code vinyl records), external DJ mixer and turntables or DJ-CD players.

TRAKTOR 3 is fully compatible with Stanton's FinalScratch 2 DJ system. This combination affords you direct control of the TRAKTOR software using the turntables or CD players. A particularly intuitive and DJ-friendly setup. Pitching, cueing, spinning, scratching etc. are all performed directly via the turntables (or CD players), exactly as with a conventional DJ setup. The digital audio files being played by TRAKTOR follow the exact movements of the special FinalScratch records that contain precise timecode information.

4. Setup with MIDI-Controllers and Hotkeys For live performance and home and professional studio use Equipment: Laptop or Desktop Computer, audio interface, MIDI controller or keyboard

With this setup all of TRAKTOR's parameters and functions such as start-stop, loops, cueing, volume, filters and EQs can be controlled with one or more external MIDI controllers or keyboard commands (hotkeys).

Using the hotkey and MIDI setup dialogs the knobs, faders and buttons of your MIDI controller or your computer keyboard can be assigned to the TRAKTOR controls. Just add a control in the corresponding TRAKTOR dialog, click learn and use a knob, fader, button of your MIDI-controller or press a key on your computer keyboard – finished.

TRAKTOR 3 can be controlled remotely with any MIDI controller. Uniting a hardware mixer, MIDI controller and multi-channel audio interface into a single unit, the acclaimed Allen & Heath XONE:92 mixer is the perfect solution for professional DJs.
